Christmas Eve
We spent a good portion of the day cleaning Christmas Eve- we were having visitors and we had put off the cleaning for awhile. So we made some last minute cleaning attempts and called it good.
We finished the Lego advent calendar- this was awesome. I think we will be getting one every year, the boys looked forward to it every day. I do think we might need to get Brian a separate one though, it killed him a little bit every night that the boys wanted to "help" or play with the Legos (they have differing ideas about how Legos should be treated). But it was awesome, and we all loved it.
We made a fancy dinner. It was appreciated by the grown ups. The kids had a "cheese plate" with Lil' smokies on toothpicks (or samples as Zach calls them) and Brian and I had prime NY strip steaks with baked potatoes and broccoli. It was DELICIOUS. At the risk of sounding like my dad, we make this pretty darn good at home for a fraction of the price- thanks to Grandma Suker, fancy steaks at home on holidays or celebration days has been a tradition at our house for a few years (ok almost a decade).See Brian was thrilled, and they were mildly interested. Zach did really enjoy the Martinellis cider though. Oh and we were classy, we ate in our normal places with normal dishes, and brightly colored placemats, we are considering classing it up next year but we might wait... a decade.
Yum!
Trying to show emily how awesome our dinner was.
See Brian was excited.
Then on to the christmas eve festivities (after we cleaned up). I'm a mean mom and I made everyone help me clean the kitchen before we could move on to fun... sorry everyone.
We opened our traditional Christmas Eve package- comfy pants, movie, snacks, and a game. played a quick round of candy land and headed upstairs to watch Inside Out for a bit. The boys decided they were hungry (imagine that after eating next to nothing for dinner) and ate an entire container of hummus and crackers while we watched part of the movie.
This is what we left of santa hummus and crackers and a juice box. Michael learned about Whoa food and Go food at school. He told me santa might need some Go food after all that Whoa food so we opted to skip the cookies and go for the healthier option.
The stockings were hung on the chair... we don't have a fireplace this works.
It's hard to tell but this is the tree all ready for christmas morning. The boys had a hard day and were in bed by 7:30, Santa arrived shortly after that, this was taken at about 8:30pm.
