Zachary is a Crazy Person
We always say that Zachary is a crazy person, but i think it is becoming more and more true with every passing day. Zachary seems mellow, even tempered, and generally happy, but that is how he lulls you into a false sense of security. While he is all of those things he is also daring and determined, two things that really don't go well together. Let me give you two examples from today.
We have a slide in our playroom. It's a small plastic slide, not to tall, but a child does need to climb up to slide down. There is a little platform to stand on at the top and a basketball hoop on one side. Zach loves the slide, he loves it when we put him on the slide and he slides down, but Zach wants freedom to slide down without the help of mom and dad... so Zach learned to climb up the slide. He tried to climb the actual slide and got almost to the top and then he discovered the climbing wall on the other side and within a matter of minutes he had learned to scale the wall crawl on the platform and dive headfirst down the slide (luckily the bottom is carpeted). That wasnt enough for him, he then decided to stand up on the platform and jump up and down... that went... well badly. He fell, hit the outlet cover and broke it, and cut his head open on the piece he chipped off. I found myself wondering at what point you need to take your child to the ER for stitches to the back of the head. Luckily it was superficial but there was quite a bit of blood. he was upset, but i think he was most upset that he wasnt on the platform. He needed a quick hug and then... he was back up there. That was at 330.
At 430 I was making dinner in an attempt to get to soccer and Zach found himself by the stairs. There is a baby gate up so he can't crawl up the stairs (which he really wants to do). I thought the gate would stop him and he would lose interest...no. Instead he climbs up the gate and attempts to launch himself over. He hasn't made it over yet, but I would assume its just a matter of time before that happens and he goes up the stairs unassisted. Or that he breaks the gate off the stairs which he has tried to do as well. Im not really sure what to do about this. I can't bolt the gate in, I can't ditch the gate, and he can't be distracted. The kid can't walk yet, he still has a pacifier, and has yet to utter his first word, but Im worrying about visits to the ER, bumps on the head, and the broken bones that seem inevitable at this point.
So Zach seems sweet, meek, and innocent, but that's just his cover.
