Wright's Lake
We made it to Wright's Lake this year! Michael had been once before, and Brian had been a couple of times before, I have been... well 20 times or so but this was Zachary's very first time. Michael is still talking about it and asking when we can go back. He's even requested we put up a picture of Wright's Lake in his room (we haven't yet). We stayed for 4 days... the perfect amount to time, and this year was quite chilly. I think this was the first time in a very long time that we actually needed a fire and sweatshirts. We had several chilly misty days and one really nice day. It was a great change from Texas!
We drove up with my parents, they nicely rented a minivan to haul everyone. And... best part, the minivan had a DVD player. Yep the boys were in heaven.
We made a quick stop at Walmart ($170 later) and then a good long trip to Costo. We were a bit worried everything would fit, but no worries, Zach and I buried ourselves in groceries and we made it up the hill. Just like the good old days, too much stuff and not enough room. This was the view from my seat. Yep this was my lap.
As usual the boys loved costco.
The view heading up the Wright's Lake road. We were above the clouds.
It looked chilly.
And as it turns out...
It was! This is snow! This is the first time I have ever seen this much snow up there. I know it snows but usually we go in August so it isn't a big deal, the snow is long gone by then. This time... well this time was different, and really so much fun!
We tried out the backpack. He loved it, he called it "pack pack". He was pretty content to be in it as long as no one else carried him. Oh and he could pull hair or jab with his funny fingers.
There was a huge tree down right in front of the cabin, Michael was in heaven!
Zach liked the walks.
Michael loved everything about the lake, the dirt, the lake, etc. On the first day he was sitting by the shore/dock with my mom and decided he wanted to jump in... fully clothed with his only jacket and pair of shoes. Yep it was awesome.
The view from the phone booth. Usually the mountain are visible but not this time!
First phone booth visit. We had to trek up to talk to the "Maxis". Em and Colin decide to sneak up to the Lake. They told everyone (except me) that they weren't going to make it, but they ended up coming on our second day. Dad was shocked.
Michael was super cooperative.
The view from the high road.
Look how low the clouds were. Usually there is more to see but not this year.
This giant tree fell and it almost crushed the outhouse and the propane tank, it didn't but the entire thing was uprooted.
The view from the kitchen table.
We decided to go on a hike. We thought that a quick hike to "Grandma Falls" would be a win and the perfect length for the boys. Well we set off with the assumption that we knew how to get there, or that someone (cough dad) would know how to get there... turns out we were wrong. We ended up wandering around the granite slopes for a bit. Brian and Colin scouted around looking for the falls, this was tiny bit problematic as neither of them had ever been there. As we were giving up and heading home Mom headed off in a different direction and ended up leading us down the backside of the falls. yep, that's right.
Just the tiniest bit lost.
Our very helpful navigator.
Once we found the falls Em, Colin, and Brian hiked up with Mikey.
The pools were really shallow this year (because of the drought) but the water was just as cold as ever. Zach was skeptical about getting in, but after a bit of coaxing he ended up "enjoying" it.
Zach was a tiny bit clingy the entire trip and did not want anyone else to be with him near the water.
Poppy got in and then dunked his head. He said it was "very refreshing". It felt like ice, so I'm not sure how that is refreshing.
Michael wore his creature power suit the entire time. It was adorable. Since it was chilly it worked out (extra jacket).
The view from he top of the falls.
After a long and taxing hike (in fairness Michael did hike the whole way, even when we were lost) the boys needed a "rest".
We played telestrations. Best game ever.
Our only picture from this year.
the other side of the table.
Don't worry we hit the first costco possible on our way home.
