To My Sweet Second Child
As we get closer and closer to Grace coming (12 weeks from today!) I am reminded that soon our family dynamic is going to change. It's happy and sad at the same time. But while it is the same I have to write a letter to each of the boys.
To my sweet second child,
Oh Zach, you are a crazy person. You are full of personality, opinions, and action. You are stubborn but usually rational. You are self contained, independent, and want to solve your own problems. You are adventurous to a fault. We often joke that there is nothing you can't and won't do, no obstacle to high for you to at least attempt. You know what you want and are unwilling to stop until you get it, even if it means doing it yourself. You adore Buddy. You wake up every morning asking for him, are excited each time we pick him up at school, and almost always willing to go along with his ideas. You are a sidekick, but one that thinks for himself. You have opinions about things and don't care if others don't share those opinions, for example Michael thinks anything green will kill him, you on the other hand love zucchini and broccoli. You love to sleep and know when you need to go to bed. You rent cuddly, except rarely and then you just want to sit near someone but not be cuddled. You're generally very sure of yourself and your abilities. You don't worry about life, but instead embrace it head on each day. You know how to comfort yourself, find solutions to your own problems, and move on when things are tough. You can stand up for yourself, but are learning when to back down and show compassion. You were born understanding empathy and that other people have needs, you are constantly looking out for Michael, sometimes I think you are more the big brother to him then he is to you. I am excited to see how much you change these next few months, especially as you embrace your new role as big brother. I hope you and Grace are buddies, just like you and Michael. I hope that you show her the same level of understanding that you have always shown Michael.
You are my little buddy, you like to sit on the stool and talk while I make dinner, have me read you stories, do puzzles, and just be happy with me. You don't need much, maybe a "frosty milk" and a pup pup and you are content. You can play alone, entertain yourself, and just enjoy life. You my friend are awesome. You almost always wake up happy, well you are almost always just happy, and content. Oh sweet little munchkin, we are so glad you are part of our family.
We harvested our broccoli (first round) Zach almost didn't make it inside to eat it, some of it was eaten as it was cut- he's a fan.
He's decided he likes to take selfies but he always wants us to make grumpy faces
let's hope he loves baby grace!
