A Very Quick Trip to San Antonio
We took a very quick trip to San Antonio this week. It was our last "hurrah" as a family of 4, to celebrate we even took Brian's zippy car.
We started our trip with dinner at Golden Corral. Classy, I know. We thought the boys would love it, and to be honest it is just one of those childhood experiences that you need to have. They did love it, we didn't, but this was a trip for them and it was so fun to see their faces.
We stayed in a hotel. We thought this was a good idea... until bedtime. The boys ran in, claimed beds and were so excited. I don't know how I didn't get a picture of Michael, but he was thrilled. Zach got a spot and then got really upset that Poppy wasnt there and kept telling me that Poppy was coming and this was Poppy's bed.
He settled down... until it was time to actually sleep. So here's the thing about Zach. If he could never leave our house he would. He might leave for church, the occasional park trip, and gymnastics, but he does not like to leave, he likes to stay home. Around 4 am (both nights) he started begging to get in the car and drive home- "I need to go home, I need to sit in my seat!" So that was delightful.
Our real purpose in the trip was to take the boys to the zoo. Michael LOVES the show Wild Kratts and all animals so zoos are awesome for him. He insisted on wearing his creature power suit and taking his power discs. Zach also dressed up. It turns out they aren't the only kids that are fans of the Kratt brothers. As we walked around the zoo the kids in school groups pointed them out and they were celebrities. So fun, Michael loved it.
Zach was only so thrilled with the zoo. He did not want to walk, he did not want to be in the stroller and he did not want Brian to carry him. Later I realized he had fire ant bites on the bottom of one of his feet- win.
He did enjoy sitting and eating craisins.
and taking grumpy selfies.
Michael was super excited to see the hippos. They have a new habitat that was pretty cool, you could see them below and above the water.
He got his creature power disc and was posing for the picture, its a little too dark but don't worry he was ready.
His awesome hippo disc
See the hippo in the background? He was mezmorized.
After seeing as much as they were willing to we rode the train around the park. It was so fun. Zach loves little trains and was looking forward to it all day. It took us over two bridges, through a tunnel, and through the woods. Zach looked for the Gruffalo the whole time... until he couldn't keep his eyes open and then he doubled over on my lap and literally started drooling.
This is the aftermath of the train ride.
Then we rode home...
The next day we decided to go to the Alamo. This was met with mild interest, but we did it! And yes the Alamo is considerably smaller than one would think.
only mildly (or not at all interested)
Remember how Zach is a Mama's boy, this was his reaction to Brian holding him... this might be a rough month.
No we was not being hurt, he just has preferences.
We did the riverwalk for a bit
Then we rode home, which zach was happy about.
We stopped at Buccees (the world's largest gas station and convenience store) which they LOVED. And we discovered rainbow mentos, which are great.
