First off the stats. Yesterday (so June 27th which is admittedly a little past 6 months) these were the stats:
Weight: 20lbs 5oz (90th percentile)
Height: 28 1/2 inches (95 percentile)
Head Circumference: 42 centimeters (thats sounds about right, maybe I wrote that down wrong) (45th percentile)
Our sweet Zachary is 6 months old! Once again I’m late posting, and once again I am calling him “sweet” but there really is no other way to describe this kid. He is mellow and happy 95% of the time. Really, he is just the perfect 2nd child, sweet enough to trick us into thinking we may some day be able to handle a 3rd (dont worry we arent that brave just quite yet).
-Zach has beautiful long lashes and dark eyes. Michael has them too, but he is so busy they are hard to see now. People come up to us in the store all the time and tell us how cute Zach is. They also like to tell me he would be a pretty girl (I guess it’s the lashes). I think his sweet smiley personality helps too, he has all the women over 45 wrapped around his chubby finger.
-Zach does not like to be left out. If we are sitting at the table he want to be there too. If I am making dinner he wants to be there, if his brother is playing outside he wants to be there and so on. He likes to be included. I dont know if this is a second child thing, or a Zach thing.
-He likes to wrestle and roughhouse with his brother- to a point. He screams and plays along for a bit. it is so funny to see them together. I thought at first it was just Michael attacking Zach, but no he seems to actually like it. He likes any time his brother plays with him, whether it is rough or nicely with toys.
-He has started to like books. This is great because I recently heard a story on NPR about the importance of reading to children from birth. He isn't reading age appropriate books, but he is getting great vocabulary lessons from the stories Michael likes.
-He loves other babies, especially girls. This has made nursing him in the mother’s room at church… virtually impossible unless we happen to go in when no one else is there. He is just too easily distracted (in general now), and he has to flirt with all the little girls.
-He has the biggest smile. I’m starting to get the feeling he knows he’s a little charmer. He smiles at the grocery cashiers, ladies that pass by, his brother… everyone.
 |
| he looks confused about being in our family...who wouldn't be, but seriously in a picture! |
-He can recognize faces. He is still young enough that he will go to other people (though that is becoming harder) but he can most definitely pick Brian and me out of the crowd.
-He LOVES his dad. Both our boys adore Brian, and really who wouldn't he’s a great dad, but Zach has decided he really really likes him lately. He smiles a ton at him whenever he is here and does all his best tricks to get Brian’s attention. It’s pretty cute.
-He can roll all the way over. This is occasionally used as a form of locomotion, but he much prefers to “inchworm”. He draws his knees up and in and kinda pulls himself across the floor… yes this makes us extremely nervous.
-He loves the swings at the park. He also loves to float in a boat at the pool. not so much the pool without the boat though.
-Zach makes the best faces in pictures… unless you are paying for them and what you wanted was for him to smile, then he looks pained, confused, or horrified.
 |
| see awful expression, and we convinced his brother to smile! |
-He loves food, but he doenst really love to be fed. He’s ok being fed but he really prefers to feed himself. He’s ok with purees but prefers something with a little more substance. So we are going to see what we can do to help him with that.
-He loves baths. He thinks he’s so funny trying to flip out of the tub, yes he even laughs at himself.
-He has the sweetest quiet laugh… you have to hear it, it is so quiet you can’t quite be sure that’s what he’s doing.
 |
| He looks horrified, or confused. I think he is saying something along the lines of "families are forever? no one told me I was going to be stuck with these folks forever!" |
-He has outgrown his infant carrier. I guess technically he could still be in it but it seemed a bit tight so we moved him to his big boy rear facing seat.
-He loves his puppy. Someone gave us a taggie puppy when he was born, he also has one from michael and grammy, but this other one is by far his favorite… it has the tags and makes sound when you shake it. He lights up when he sees it and continues to try and smother himself to sleep.
-He sleeps! If we are out and about during nap time he is quite irritated but recently we have compromised by letting him sleep on a blanket in the cart and this seems to work ok. He still prefers to go to bed and naps at the same time each day… and… he sleeps through the night! Usually 7:15pm-5 or 6am. This is a huge deal at our house. Some moms are great about sleep training, I’m a pushover and not great, so he did it himself before I had to really do it and that makes me love him that much more.
-Zach loves to drink water from a cup. I know it’s strange, but anytime anyone has a cup of water he wants some. He flaps his arms, yells, etc until he gets a sip. and he’s good at drinking from the cup, better at the cup than the sippy cup.
-He loves watermelon, he cries when it is taken away. I love that you think I am joking… I'm so not.
-If you have to take a baby on a 1400 mile car trip this is the one to take. he was great all the way to utah and back. yes there were some tense moments but all in all he was a great passenger and such a trooper through all the wedding craziness and no naps while we were there.
-We still dont know who he looks like. Sometimes it is like we are going to be able to pinpoint it, but then… no.
We love this sweet mellow zach, we are so blessed to have him in our family!
